30 Jul Favourite Autumn Hikes in County Down
For many of us, a favourite time of year in Ireland is not necessarily summer but Autumn (Fall) Despite the evenings getting shorter, a beautiful light envelops our landscape and reflects the golds, ochres and other hues with unparalleled magnificence. Many stories, poems and songs have been written about one of the most stunning mountain ranges on the island of Ireland.
The Mourne Mountains are divided into the ‘High Mournes’ and ‘Low Mournes’ located in County Down, they lie approx. 30 miles south of Belfast and over 60 miles north of Dublin, making them easily accessible for Irish walkers and visitors spending time in Northern Ireland. The highest peaks range from Meelmore at 704m to Slieve Donard at 853m.
If you have always wanted to enjoy a hike, ramble or mountain challenge, there are several tried and trusted walking and hiking trails to suit a wide range of fitness levels and time required. Here are some of our favourites.
